Yobe Guber Race: Zaki Endorses Senator Bomai

In a significant move ahead of the 2027 Governorship elections, Alhaji Yusuf Zaki, a prominent ally of Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai and a well-known grassroots mobilizer within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State, has called upon party members and stakeholders to support the candidacy of Bomai, arguing that it is time for Yobe South to produce the next Governor.

Speaking with journalists in Potiskum town, Zaki highlighted the historical pattern of governorship zoning in Yobe State, noting that the Yobe East senatorial zone has predominantly held the Governorship office since the return to democracy.

According to Zaki, the political history of the state reveals a trend that began with the election of Senator Mamman Ali from Zone B, who tragically passed away while in office. His deputy, Ibrahim Gaidam from Zone A, took over and completed his two-term tenure, followed by the election of the current Governor Mai Mala Buni, also from Zone A. Zaki contended that this history underscores the need for fairness and equity, proposing that it is now Yobe South’s turn to lead.

“Yobe South is ready and deserving of the Governorship position,” Zaki asserted. “We have someone like Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai, whose capacity, educational background, and integrity speak volumes of his ability to serve our people. His selfless service and commitment to development have already begun to break the jinx of stagnation in our area.”

Zaki pointed out that since assuming office, Senator Bomai has facilitated numerous people-oriented projects, including infrastructure development such as roads and drainage systems, improvements in healthcare, and the establishment of foreign scholarship programs. Additionally, his focus on youth and women empowerment has been transformative in the region.

“He is a detribalized leader who treats everyone equally, regardless of their religion, tribe, or political orientation,” Zaki emphasized. “That’s the hallmark of a responsible leader, one who prioritizes the well-being of all constituents.”

Zaki also stressed the importance of continuity in governance, advocating for Bomai’s endorsement as a means of sustaining the positive legacies of Governor Mai Mala Buni. He outlined the need for the APC to recognize and support the Yobe South candidate in order to ensure the party’s victory in the upcoming elections.

“Our senatorial zone B is blessed with a large population of independent-minded individuals,” He said. “These are people who do not solely depend on government assistance but are peace-loving and supportive. Our votes are critical in enabling the APC to maintain its hold in Yobe State, and we should not be overlooked.”
