According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the continued prosecution of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has prompted the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) to voice their worry, implying that religious interests might be playing a role in the case.
On September 8, 2026, the Islamic organization voiced its worry in a statement issued by Professor Is-haq Oloyede, who is also its Secretary-General.
According to Oloyede, the NSCIA had been silent on the El-Rufai and other political individuals’ prosecution scandal because they saw it as a regular court process.
He asserts that the council’s faith in the judicial system to resolve the matter and provide justice was its reliance.
But according to Oloyede, the NSCIA changed its mind and voiced its concerns publicly because of circumstances surrounding the case.
The council’s concerns about the potential manipulation of government institutions and the legal system to forward a perceived sectarian agenda against the former Kaduna governor were voiced by the Secretary General.
His plea was for the federal government and the courts to prevent the misuse of the legal system for religious ends.
When it came to a case involving a well-known politician, Oloyede emphasized how critical it was to keep religion out of the court system.
When dealing with the situation, the NSCIA also emphasized that the government should prioritize peace, stability, and security.
Religious beliefs, the council argued, have no place in the judicial system and should not dictate the course of a case.
