According to a reports on Saturday 22 August 2026; Motorists in Abuja and parts of the Federal Capital Territory are facing another increase in petrol prices as several filling stations have adjusted their pump rates upward.
A market check on Saturday showed that MRS filling stations in areas including Kubwa and Lugbe increased the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from N1,210 to N1,230 per litre.
Other fuel stations, including NNPC, Rainoil, Empire Energy and Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company, were also selling petrol at higher prices, with rates ranging from N1,250 to N1,299 per litre.
The latest adjustment represents a N20 increase at MRS outlets.
A manager at an MRS station, who requested anonymity, said the company’s Lagos headquarters directed the outlets to implement the increase from Friday.
He said no explanation was provided for the new price.
The development came shortly after Dangote Refinery increased its petrol gantry price from N1,165 to N1,185 per litre.
As a result, motorists in Abuja and neighbouring areas now face pump prices of between N1,230 and N1,299 per litre.
The latest increase also coincides with a rise in global crude oil prices, as Brent crude climbed above $94 per barrel.
The development marks a shift from the price reductions recorded in recent weeks, when filling stations cut petrol prices by as much as N90 per litre following reductions in Dangote Refinery’s gantry price.
