Gov. Buni Hosts Police DIGs, Says No Meaningful Development Without Peace

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has said that sustainable development can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace and security, stressing that no society can attain meaningful progress without stable and secure environment.

The governor made the remark through the Acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Mohammed Goje, during a courtesy visit by the two Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) representing the North-East Geo-Political Zone at the Governor’s Office, Damaturu.

Buni described the visit as timely and significant, noting that it reflects the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening national security, improving operational effectiveness and enhancing collaboration with state governments across the country.

He said security remains the foundation upon which lasting peace, economic growth, and social development are built, adding that his administration has consistently placed the safety of citizens at the centre of its governance priorities.

“Without peace, there won’t be meaningful development. Lasting peace, economic growth, and social progress can only thrive in an environment of safety and stability,” the governor stated.

He expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the entire Nigeria Police Force for their sacrifices, patriotism, and dedication to safeguarding the unity, peace and stability of Nigeria.

According to him, the Yobe State Government has maintained a productive partnership with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies through the provision of operational support, improvement of security infrastructure, institutional coordination and sustained collaboration aimed at enhancing security operations across the state.

Governor Buni restated his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies to consolidate the gains achieved in restoring peace and ensuring the protection of lives and property across Yobe State.

Earlier speaking, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, In-charge of the North-East, DIG Zakaria Fera commended the Yobe State Government for its support to security agencies and expressed optimism that ongoing security measures would help secure lasting peace in the state and the region.

The DIG assured the residents of the determination of the Nigeria Police Force to intensify efforts against criminal elements and strengthen public safety.

According to him, the visit was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to assess and evaluate the security architecture across the North-East.

“Yobe people have suffered enough, and we say enough is enough. We are determined to take the battle to criminals and ensure citizens enjoy peace and security,” he said.

The delegation included DIG Incharge of Research and Planing, Ibrahim Zango, the Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command, and other senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, while top government officials present at the meeting included the Speaker Yobe State, House of Assembly represented, the Head of Service, Commissioners, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and Permanent Secretaries among other top government functionaries.
