According to a report by BBC SPORT on Sunday September 6, 2026, Luke Shaw was Manchester United’s standout performer despite Everton scoring a dramatic late equaliser to secure a 2-2 draw at the end of a thrilling encounter.

The defender produced one of the match’s most important moments when his superb cross created United’s second goal. His attacking contribution made him the clear Man of the Match for the visitors.

Shaw delivered his biggest contribution in the 88th minute when Manchester United appeared set to claim all three points. The left-back produced a beautifully measured lofted cross into the Everton penalty area. Benjamin Sesko rose above the defenders and directed his header into the middle of the net to restore United’s advantage.

The assist demonstrated Shaw’s quality and composure in a crucial moment. His delivery was perfectly placed for Sesko to attack, giving the striker an excellent opportunity to beat the goalkeeper. The move also showed Shaw’s ability to influence matches from his defensive position.

The defender remained involved despite receiving a yellow card in the 62nd minute. Shaw continued to play with discipline and determination after the booking. He also helped United cope with Everton’s pressure as the home side searched for an equaliser.

Manchester United had taken the lead immediately after half-time through Bryan Mbeumo. The forward produced an outstanding long-range strike that found the bottom-left corner. Everton eventually responded in the 83rd minute when Tyrique George found space inside the box before firing into the top-right corner.

Shaw then stepped forward five minutes later with his decisive assist. United looked to have done enough to secure victory, but Everton refused to give up. Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored in the sixth minute of stoppage time to snatch a 2-2 draw.

Shaw was substituted moments before the final whistle, with Noussair Mazraoui replacing him. Although United surrendered their lead at the death, Shaw’s performance stood out. His excellent delivery, attacking intent and key assist made him Manchester United’s Man of the Match.
