Reports from The Athletic and BBC Sport state that Manchester City have been found to have breached almost all of the 115 Premier League charges brought against them, with the alleged financial violations mainly covering the period between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons.
The charges relate to areas including financial reporting, payments involving players and managers, and compliance with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
During that period, City won the Premier League titles in 2011/12, 2013/14 and 2017/18.
Manchester United finished runners-up in the 2011/12 and 2017/18 campaigns, while Liverpool finished second in 2013/14. Therefore, if City were retrospectively stripped of those titles, the championships could potentially be awarded to those respective clubs.
Arsenal, however, finished second in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, which fall outside the main period covered by the financial charges.
Although there are separate charges concerning City’s cooperation with the investigation, they are not based on the same financial breaches linked to the earlier title-winning seasons.
Consequently, Arsenal would not have a claim to those more recent Premier League titles if City were stripped of their pre-2018 championships. The key issue is the specific seasons connected to the alleged breaches, rather than simply any campaign in which City finished above Arsenal.
