Basic Computer Knowledge No Longer Luxury — UBEC
The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), in collaboration with the Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB), has commenced the training of staff on computer hardware and software in the state, saying basic computer knowledge is no longer a luxury but a necessity.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the ZSUBEB Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Musa Maizare, said the participants were drawn from across the state.
“The participants comprise 50 teachers and 25 Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) Education Management Information System (EMIS) staff across the state.
“In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of ZSUBEB, Professor Nasir Garba Anka, said the training was timely, given the growing importance of technology in teaching, learning, education administration, data management and reporting.
“On the hardware aspect, participants would learn about the CPU, HDD/SSD, motherboard, ports and peripheral devices, as well as basic computer maintenance and the prevention of overheating.
“On the software aspect, they would be trained on operating systems, software installation, updating, configuration and basic troubleshooting.”
Professor Anka urged the participants to participate actively in the practical sessions and share the knowledge acquired with their colleagues in schools.
He appreciated the organisers, facilitators, resource persons and other stakeholders for their efforts towards strengthening the capacity of the education workforce.
Declaring the training open, the UBEC State Coordinator, Zamfara State Office, Malam Tanimu Abdulkadir, representing the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Aisha Garba, commended ZSUBEB for the initiative.
“Basic computer knowledge is no longer a luxury but a necessity. Schools need such skills to maintain accurate records, submit EMIS data and prepare modern lessons for pupils.”
He also assured the participants of UBEC’s continued support for ICT development in basic schools.
Also, the Director of Data, Digital Platform and Analytics, Dalhatu Muhammad, urged the participants to be punctual, attentive and fully committed to the training.
