The Yobe State All Progressives Congress (APC) has received about 293 groups from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Potiskum Local Government Area including the party’s chairman of the Local Government.
This mass defection which is one of the largest in the area in recent times, was led by the PDP Chairman in Potiskum LGA, Alhaji Audu Hamisu, popularly known as “Soja Boy”.
According to the report the defectors were drawn from several grassroots groups, including Tora-Bora, Texaco, Sokol-Jigawa, Dorawa, Kabul, Kamfala, Old Kwata, Rasha and Big Soja respectively.
In his speech while receiving the defectors in Potiskum, the Yobe State APC Chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Gadaka, described the party as inclusive and accommodating, attributing its growing strength to its broad-based appeal at large.
Gadaka commended the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni, urging the new members to contribute actively to the party’s success in the coming election of 2027.
According to him, the APC is a broad-based platform that offers equal opportunities to all members, irrespective of their background. “I urge you to integrate quickly and work for the party’s victory in the forthcoming elections,”
Also speaking, Audu Hamisu said the decision to defect followed consultations and a review of the APC’s performance at both the state and federal levels respectively.
Hamisu cited improvements in security, economic policies and grassroots development as key factors behind the move.
“After a careful assessment by him and his people they are convinced that our political future lies with the APC.”
