ABU VC Eyes Further Decrease In Monthly Electricity Bill

The Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Prof. Adamu Ahmed has said that the University will continue to manage its monthly energy bill as managed as at May last year, dropping from N370m per month to now N240m per month from last July.

He stated this at a Talk Shop Series 5.0
organized by the Department of Local Government and Development Studies, ABU, Zaria, with the theme: “An Environmental Friendly Campus Conducive For Learning and Research”.

Professor Adamu Ahmed urged students to continue managing the energy as the Director of the Institute of Administration has been complaining about the issue of lingering power supply and “I took special attention by meeting KEDCO officials to address it, and we are going to continue pushing them to do the needful”.

According to him, the management are also pursuing Federal Government to give them at least two megawatts of sustainable energy at Kongo campus.

He hoped by next year when he comes around for their graduation he will see many more projects, and to see every graduating students planted at least one economic tree as his legacy.

The Vice Chancellor expressed satisfaction with the students for organizing the event which demonstrated how committed they are with the hope that it will continue across the campuses.

He reminds them that ABU celebrated as the most Green Campus in Nigeria, that is why every year the University run a comprehensive Tree Planting campaign.

“To see students key in protecting environment at this critical time is worth recommendation and appreciation”.

As more than 35 universities across Nigeria use “Critical Thought for Critical Minds” as the motto of their Mathematics Department.

Guest Speaker, Slhaji Adamu Mamman Kontagora, President World-wide, ABU Alumni Association advised the students never to underestimate the impact of your contributions, no matter how small they may seem at the time.

He said, as students, they may not fully appreciate the significance of the ideas generated, the organisations they build, or the values they uphold.

“Yet, with time, these contributions
can transcend generations and influence institutions far beyond our immediate environment.

“This is the enduring power of legacy. It reminds us that each of us has the capacity to leave a positive imprint on our University and our society”.

To the students, he encouraged them to dream boldly, think critically, and serve selflessly. “The initiative you champion today may become the tradition that guides others tomorrow.

“To the alumni, let us remember that our relationship with Ahmadu Bello University did not end at graduation.

“Indeed, the true measure of our success is not merely what we achieve for ourselves, but what we leave behind for others,” he stressed.

“We all have something valuable to contribute towards strengthening the institution that helped shape our lives.

Earlier, the Convener of the programme, Professor Abdul Hamidu Abdullahi said, the essence of the programme is to engage students of Level 2, 3 and 4 on promoting environmental health in the Campus and neighbouring communities.

Prof. Abdullahi added that the students of the department has been committed to the promotion of environmental and energy every year.
