…Tasks Officers on Innovation, Professionalism

By Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu

The Yobe State Government has intensified efforts to modernise public financial management, with a call on financial managers across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to embrace innovation, professionalism and emerging technologies for improved transparency, accountability and efficiency.

A press statement by Alhassan Sule Mamudo who is the head of information in the office of the Head of Service, said that the HoS, Abdullahi Musa Shehu, made the call while declaring open, a three-day workshop titled “Emerging Technologies in Public Financial Management: Applications of Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain and Forensic Analytics for Public-Sector Financial Managers,” held at Tahir Guest Palace, Kano.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office and Overseas Manpower Development Office, Shuaibu Ibrahim Amshi, the Head of Service said the workshop reflected the commitment of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration to strengthening human capital development and building a more efficient, accountable and technology-driven civil service.

He noted that emerging technologies offer practical solutions to critical financial management challenges, including fraud detection, revenue forecasting, transparent procurement, improved resource allocation and effective monitoring of public expenditure.

The HoS urged participants to take full advantage of the training and translate the knowledge acquired into improved professional practices, stressing that innovation, integrity and professionalism remain essential to effective public financial management.

In his welcome address, the Lead Consultant of Ventures Consultancy Nigeria Limited, Malam Abdulrazaq Ibrahim, commended Governor Buni, the Head of Service and the Focal Person on Training and Succession Planning, Comrade Ibrahim Bulama Yusuf, for their commitment to the successful organisation of the programme.

He expressed confidence that the workshop would equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to harness emerging technologies in strengthening financial governance, promoting accountability and improving service delivery.

Also speaking, the Focal Person on Training and Succession Planning, Comrade Ibrahim Bulama Yusuf, described the initiative as more than a routine training programme, noting that it formed part of the government’s broader succession-planning strategy to prepare competent officers for future leadership responsibilities.

He recalled the administration’s sustained investment in human capital development through the sponsorship of civil servants to the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) and other reputable training institutions.

He said the initiative further reinforced the importance of continuous learning, professional development and technological competence in preparing the state’s workforce for the evolving demands of public administration.
