Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved the sum of N2.7 billion for the construction of a modern market in Machina, as part of his administration’s ongoing drive to boost economic development and improve commercial activities across the state.
This was disclosed during a press briefing by the State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Hon. Abdullahi Bego, following the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House, Damaturu.
The meeting, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, considered and ratified key projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, and youth empowerment in the state.
According to the briefing, the Machina Modern Market project will gulp N2,787,625,946.89, while additional approvals include N3.01 billion as variation for the Geidam Modern Market, and N3.98 billion for the completion of the Potiskum Modern Market.
“These investments in market infrastructure are part of Governor Buni’s vision to stimulate local economies, create jobs, and expand trading opportunities for citizens across Yobe State,” the commissioner stated.
The Council also approved massive investments in other sectors: N6.13 billion for the establishment of a Central Motor Park in Damaturu, N248.6 million for the remodeling of the Yobe Line Terminus, N3.79 billion for the procurement of agricultural inputs for dry season farming, N5.31 billion for NPK fertilizers for the 2025 farming season, N1.43 billion for construction works in health facilities and training institutions and N1.22 billion for medical and laboratory equipment.
Other approvals included road construction projects worth over 11 Billion and empowerment schemes through the Ministry of Wealth Creation totaling N675 million for procurement of barbershop and hairdressing salon equipment.
