We’re Not Asking Tinubu To Release El-Rufai Because He’s Fulani, Let Justice Be Done – Galadima
Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said he is not asking President Bola Tinubu to release former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, but wants the former governor to be treated according to Nigerian law.
Galadima made the statement during an interview on SYMFONI TV on Saturday, October 3, 2026, while speaking about the ongoing issues surrounding El-Rufai and the government.
The NDC chieftain said his position was not that Tinubu should intervene to secure El-Rufai’s release, stressing that what matters is that due process and the laws of the country should be followed.
“We are not asking Tinubu to release El-Rufai. Let justice be done to him according to laws of the country. It doesn’t have to be because El-Rufai is Hausa or Fulani,” Galadima said.
His comment comes amid continued political discussions surrounding El-Rufai, who has been a prominent opposition figure and critic of the Tinubu administration.
Galadima’s statement also places emphasis on the principle of justice rather than political intervention, suggesting that any action taken against El-Rufai should be determined by the applicable laws and legal procedures.
The former Kaduna governor has remained a major figure in Nigeria’s political space, particularly following his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his subsequent alignment with opposition political forces.
The issue has generated reactions from political figures and groups, with supporters and critics expressing different views on the treatment of opposition politicians and the application of the law.
