Tinubu Urges INEC To Conduct Free, Fair And Credible Osun Election

According to a report by TheCable on Friday, August 14, 2026, Osun State’s gubernatorial race is a chance for the Independent National Electoral Commission to show that it is prepared for the national elections in 2027, according to President Bola Tinubu.
In an appeal issued on Friday, August 14, 2026, in the lead-up to the governorship poll, the president urged the electoral body to make honesty, order, and credibility their top priorities.
As voters and political parties got ready for the election, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, expressed his viewpoint.
The president has declared the gubernatorial race in Osun to be the last off-cycle election before the general election in 2027.
He emphasised that the initiative would provide INEC a chance to show that it can manage elections in a way that people trust.
He begged the commission to watch over the election from start to finish to make sure it was fair and the results were reflective of the voters’ will.
Voters, election officials, and other stakeholders must be adequately protected, according to Tinubu’s directives to the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies tasked with the poll.
He issued a stern warning against anyone trying to obstruct or intimidate people from exercising their fundamental right to vote.
Free and fair voting is essential, and the President has said that election workers must be safe as they do their jobs.
The President went on to urge all registered voters in Osun State to go to the polls and choose their representatives.
To ensure a peaceful election and the safety of citizens before, during, and after the exercise, he insisted that the necessary precautions had been taken.
Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, and Accord’s Governor Ademola Adeleke are the contestants.
