According to a Facebook post on Sunday September 6 2026, former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, criticised Nyesom Wike over his conduct during the burial of the mother of Rotimi Amaechi.
Dalung said political rivalry should not override human decency during a period of mourning.
Dalung said Wike attended a political reception in Omagwa on the same day Amaechi’s mother was buried. He also referred to reports of security restrictions along the route between the two communities.
He said the Rivers state ADC had alleged that the arrangements were meant to frustrate access to the burial. Dalung, however, said the allegation should be investigated.
He also criticised Wike over reports that he said Amaechi could not defeat him in the 2027 election. Dalung described the reported comment as inappropriate. He said political opponents could compete and disagree without denying each other dignity during times of grief.
Dalung said Wike’s political influence went beyond his position as FCT minister. He attributed it to the support he currently enjoyed from the highest level of government. He said Wike’s relationship with President Bola Tinubu had strengthened his political position.
The former minister said the issue was bigger than the rivalry between Wike and Amaechi. He argued that public officials should not use government authority to pursue personal political battles. He also said President Tinubu had a responsibility to ensure that political interests did not override institutional responsibility.
He said, “Tinubu must call wike to order before it’s too late.”
Dalung said the same principle should apply to every political figure. He said the death of a parent should be treated with dignity, regardless of political differences. He urged Tinubu to call Wike to order and ensure that political power had clear limits.
