Tension Escalates In Sokoto As 2 ADC Supporters Allegedly Shot On Their Way To Atiku Rally
According to report by Vanguard on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, two suspected supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) were reportedly shot by operatives of the Sokoto State Community Guards on Wednesday along the Sokoto–Wurno Road.
The incident occurred amid heightened political tension ahead of the ADC presidential campaign rally scheduled to hold in the state in support of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
According to reports, the shooting happened after the Community Guards allegedly blocked the road connecting Sokoto metropolis to the eastern part of the state.
The action reportedly prevented vehicles conveying supporters to the rally from proceeding, forcing some of them to turn back.
Eyewitnesses claimed that an argument broke out between the security operatives and occupants of one of the vehicles conveying ADC supporters.
The confrontation allegedly escalated when the operatives opened fire, leaving two people with gunshot wounds.
The injured victims were subsequently taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
A source disclosed that the intervention of the Civilian JTF personnel accompanying Senator Ibrahim Lamido, coordinator of the Sokoto State ADC Presidential Campaign Council, was necessary before vehicles were eventually permitted to pass through the checkpoint.
The development has raised fresh concerns about the safety of political supporters and their freedom of movement during campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The latest incident also comes against the backdrop of previous disagreements between the ADC and security operatives in Sokoto.
The Community Guards had earlier been accused of assaulting the party’s governorship candidate, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport in the state.
The latest shooting allegation has further intensified calls for security agencies to ensure that political campaigns are conducted peacefully without intimidation or violence.
However, the Sokoto State Police Command said it had not received any official report concerning the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, said he could not confirm the alleged shooting when contacted.
