Team Nigeria’s C’wealth Games Feat Impresses Pillar of Sports

The Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike, has warmly congratulated Team Nigeria for emerging as Africa’s highest-ranked nation at the just-concluded Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland where the country secured an impressive haul of 24 medals – 10 Gold, 7 Silver and 7 Bronze medals.

Chief Agu-Ejidike, who’s also the patron of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club, described the achievement as a remarkable demonstration of patriotism, discipline, resilience and the indomitable Nigerian spirit, noting that the athletes once again proved that, given the right support and enabling environment, Nigeria possesses the talent to compete successfully with the very best in the world.

He commended the athletes for their dedication and sacrifices, while also saluting the coaches, technical crews, the National Sports Commission, the various national sporting associations, sports administrators, medical personnel, sponsors and every stakeholder whose collective efforts contributed to the historic outing.

According to the Anambra-born Sports philanthropist, the success recorded in Glasgow should serve as a source of inspiration for the nation and a renewed motivation for all those entrusted with the responsibility of developing Nigerian sports, adding that the performance has further reinforced Nigeria’s position as one of Africa’s foremost sporting nations.

Chief Agu-Ejidike, however, urged Team Nigeria and all the sporting associations not to rest on their oars, stressing that greater challenges and opportunities lie ahead on the international stage.

He encouraged them to sustain the momentum through improved preparation, discipline and hard work as they prepare for forthcoming continental and global competitions, expressing confidence that they would continue to make Nigeria proud.

While reaffirming his unwavering commitment to the growth and development of sports in Nigeria, Chief Agu-Ejidike called on government at all levels, the private sector and other well-meaning Nigerians to continue investing in sports development, describing it as a powerful vehicle for national unity, youth empowerment and international prestige.
