Road Traffic Enforcement Not For Revenue Drive – Akwa Ibom Police Command

The Nigeria Police Command in Akwa Ibom State has cleared air on the ongoing statewide roads traffic enforcement exercise in the state, saying it’s not to generate revenue for the Command nor intended to punish law-abiding citizens.

A statement Thursday by DSP Timfon John, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, the exercise is a proactive measure designed to promote compliance with traffic regulations, reduce road crashes and ensure the free and safe movement of persons and goods across the state.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command wishes to reassure members of the public that the ongoing statewide traffic enforcement exercise is a sustained initiative aimed at safeguarding lives, protecting property, and restoring order on our roads.

“The Command has observed with concern, the increasing number of road traffic crashes, many of which are caused by reckless driving, one-way driving, excessive speeding, the use of covered or concealed number plates and the unlawful operation of tricycles and motorcycles on restricted routes. These violations continue to endanger innocent road users and undermine public safety,” the statement pointed out.

The Command however, urged motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle and motorcycle operators, and all road users to obey traffic laws, cooperate with officers on lawful duty, and exercise patience and civility during enforcement operations, stressing that compliance with traffic regulations remains a shared responsibility and is essential to protecting lives and maintaining public order.

The statement also encouraged residents to report reckless driving, dangerous road practices, or any misconduct by police personnel through the appropriate channels.

It maintained the Command’s commitment to professionalism, fairness, accountability, and respect for the rights of all citizens while discharging its constitutional responsibility.

The Command appreciated the understanding, cooperation, and continued support of the good people of the state and assures them that the traffic enforcement exercise will remain an integral part of its broader strategy to promote road safety, protect lives and property, and ensure a safer and more secure Akwa Ibom State.
