The semi-final loss notwithstanding, Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike, has extended heartfelt commendation to the Super Eagles of Nigeria for their courageous and inspiring outing at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Although the journey ended at the stage, following a hard-fought 120-minute stemming from a goalless draw at regulation time, and a subsequent 4–2 penalty shootouts loss, to the hosts, Morocco, the Super Eagles emerged with something far more valuable than a trophy — the restored pride of the nation.
Chief Agu-Ejidike noted that expectations were modest at the onset of the tournament, largely due to the team’s challenging run in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the painful play-off exit against DR Congo. Many doubted the team’s hunger and belief. However, the Super Eagles silenced critics emphatically.
From the group stage onwards, the team displayed character, tactical discipline, resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose. With each game, belief returned to Nigerian homes. The players wore the green-white-green with authority, confidence and visible passion. Their performances were so commanding that even the tournament hosts and pre-tournament favourites were pushed to the edge.
Agu-Ejidike, a former President of the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) expressed deep gratitude to the players and the entire technical crew for giving Nigerians what they have long yearned for: good football, credible results, national pride, and visible passion in service of the country.
According to him, this team reminded Nigerians why football remains the nation’s strongest unifying force, and number one sport in the country.
“The Super Eagles may have lost on penalties,” Chief Agu-Ejidike stated, “but they won the hearts of over 200 million Nigerians. They played with courage, dignity and belief. That is victory in its own right.”
He further emphasized that this AFCON campaign should not be seen as a peak, but as a foundation. The signs are clear: this crop of players possess the quality, chemistry and mental strength to achieve far greater success in the years ahead. With stability, continuity, and institutional support, Nigeria’s football future is bright.
The Nnewi-born business mogul, therefore, called on football administrators, stakeholders and fans alike to keep faith with this team, protect its unity and build deliberately towards future continental and global assignments.
“Hold your heads high,” he concluded. “Nigeria is proud of you. The journey has only just begun.”
