‎People Can’t Pay Rent, Can’t Feed, So All These Put Together This Regime Is A Total Failure — Uwaifo

In a recent interview with The Sun on Saturday, September 12, 2026, the President of the South-East South-South Professionals of Nigeria (SESSPN), Hannibal Uwaifo, SAN, has criticised the Federal Government over the economic hardship Nigerians have faced since the removal of the petrol subsidy and the floating of the naira

‎Uwaifo stated that the government had failed to properly account for the financial gains it claimed would come from the removal of the petrol subsidy, he argued that Nigerians had yet to see meaningful benefits from the policy despite the severe economic pressure it had created for households and businesses.

‎According to him, the situation became worse after the government also introduced the naira float, he said the policy contributed to a sharp decline in the value of people’s savings and investments.

‎Uwaifo stated that many Nigerians who had worked and saved money over the years suddenly found the value of their funds significantly reduced because of the depreciation of the naira.

‎He linked the economic policies to the difficulties faced by businesses across the country, rising operating costs, according to him, have made it increasingly difficult for companies to remain profitable.

‎The SESSPN president stated that some businesses had been forced to shut down because they could no longer cope with the rising cost of running their operations, he further expressed concern over the effect of the economic situation on ordinary families.

‎Uwaifo stated that the rising cost of living had pushed many Nigerians into serious financial difficulties, he noted that some families were struggling to meet basic needs, including food and accommodation.

‎”Which have led to closure of businesses, and impoverished people to the level that people can’t pay their house rent, they can’t even feed their families. So, all these put together, this regime is a total failure, with all due respect,” he said.
