Oyedele Arrives Bangkok For IMF, World Bank Meetings

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has arrived in Bangkok, Thailand, to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, scheduled for October 12 to 18.
The meetings will bring together finance ministers, central bank governors, development partners, and other key economic decision-makers from around the world to discuss global economic developments, development funding, and strategies to promote sustainable economic growth.
According to a statement from the Federal Ministry of Finance, the annual gathering provides Nigeria with an opportunity to engage with international financial institutions and development partners on economic issues affecting the country and its development priorities.
The statement, issued by the ministry’s Head of Information and Public Relations Unit, Mrs Efe Ovuakporie, said Oyedele’s participation comes as Nigeria works to strengthen economic stability, attract investment, and ensure ongoing reforms deliver tangible benefits to businesses and households.
Nigeria’s key concerns include creating an environment that encourages productive investment, expands business opportunities, and generates jobs. The government is also seeking to ensure that economic reforms translate into stronger economic activity and improved opportunities for Nigerians.
The meetings are expected to provide a platform for participating countries to exchange views on the global economic outlook, financing needs, and policies that can support sustainable growth, particularly in economies facing development and investment challenges.
For Nigeria, engagements with the IMF, World Bank, and other development partners could offer opportunities to discuss the country’s economic priorities, explore areas of cooperation, and strengthen relationships with institutions involved in development financing and economic policy support.
Oyedele’s presence at the meetings also gives the Federal Government an opportunity to present its economic priorities to international partners and discuss how external cooperation can support domestic reform efforts.
However, the ministry has not yet disclosed details of the minister’s scheduled meetings or the specific issues Nigeria will raise during the week-long gathering.
Ovuakporie said the ministry would share more information on Oyedele’s engagements and Nigeria’s participation as the meetings progress.
The annual meetings are an important forum for governments and international financial institutions to discuss economic challenges, development financing, and measures to support growth amid changing global conditions.
