North East Zone DIG Engages Critical Stakeholders

… Seeks Sustained Collaboration For Enhanced Security In Yobe

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police overseeing the North East Geopolitical Zone, DIG Zakariah Fera, FDC, accompanied by DIG Ibrahim Baba Zango, on the second day of his operational visit to Yobe State, has engaged critical stakeholders at the State Police Command Headquarters, Damaturu.

The engagement brought together traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth associations, civil society organisations, cattle breeders’ associations, and other community representatives to discuss security concerns, public safety, and strategies towards strengthening peace and stability across the state.

The visiting DIG also paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Yobe State, His Excellency, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, CONM, who was represented by the Ag. Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Mohammed Goje.

During the visit, DIG Fera appreciated the state government for its continuous support to security agencies and solicited sustained partnership in line with the renewed strategies of the Nigeria Police Force to decisively tackle criminal activities and improve public safety.

The SSG reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to continued collaboration with the Police and other security agencies, while commending the Command’s efforts towards maintaining peace and security in Yobe State.

In his address, DIG Fera conveyed the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, to strengthening security operations nationwide.

He assured stakeholders that deliberate measures are being implemented to address manpower challenges affecting the Yobe State Police Command through strategic deployments and other capacity-enhancing initiatives.

He called on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the Police and other security agencies, assuring that the confidentiality of informants would be fully protected.

On the forthcoming election period, DIG Fera reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to neutrality, professionalism and impartiality in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.

He further urged all youth associations operating in the state to ensure proper registration with relevant authorities to promote accountability and effective engagement with security agencies.

The DIG also warned motorists against operating vehicles without valid registration numbers or with concealed plates, stating that such vehicles would be impounded and offenders prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The interactive session provided an avenue for stakeholders to raise security-related concerns, which were addressed by the visiting DIGs, thereby strengthening mutual trust and cooperation between the Police and the communities they serve.

The Command appreciated the continued support of all stakeholders and remains committed to sustaining partnerships that promote peace, security and development across the state.
