The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have commended the NNPC Retail Ltd. for introducing a smart station integrating self-service fuelling.

Mr Rabiu Umar, Authority Chief Executive, NMDPRA and  Kemi Nandap, Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) gave the commendation at the commissioning of the facility, on Thursday in Abuja.

<The 24 hours self-service mega smart station is, located along Bill Clinton Drive, Airport Road, Abuja, also integrated other technology-driven services.

Umar, represented by Dr Mustapha Lamorde, Executive Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Community, NMDPRA, said the development demonstrated the growing application of technology and efficiency in the downstream petroleum sector.

Umar described its integration of self-service fuel dispensing, Electric Vehicle (EV) charging, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) dispensing, automated car wash and vehicle service as evidence of the industry’s evolution.

He said technological advancement must be matched with safety, environmental stewardship and commitment to environmental protection.

“The integration of self-service fuel dispensing, EV charging points, LPG dispensing, automated car wash and a modern vehicle service just demonstrate how the downstream industry has evolved through efficiency and the use of technology.

“In NMDPRA, we like to match efficiency and the use of technology with safety, environmental stewardship, and also a good commitment to our environment,” he said.

He congratulated NNPC Ltd., NNPC Retail, its management and staff on the milestone and encouraged the company to sustain its partnerships and facilitate the replication of similar facilities across the country.

Nandap, represented by Mr Saidu Daura, Deputy Comptroller-General, Finance and Accounts, NIS, said the initiative demonstrated vision and leadership by integrating EV charging facilities with conventional fuelling services.

The Comptroller-General said the development aligned with global trends in energy transition, climate action and smart mobility.

According to her, the facility represents a practical step toward promoting cleaner, sustainable and technology-driven economic development.

She said the NIS recognised innovation and modern infrastructure as important drivers of national security and economic prosperity.

Nandap said the adoption of emerging technologies such as electric mobility could create opportunities for investment, employment, skills transfer and industrial growth.

She said the NIS, in line with its responsibility for controlling and regulating the movement of persons across Nigeria’s borders, remained committed to supporting government policies that promote innovation and sustainable development.

The comptroller-general said secure borders, modern infrastructure and sustainable development must advance together to promote national progress.

She described the commissioning as more than the opening of a service station.

“It is a statement of confidence in Nigeria’s future and its capacity to build a resilient, green and technologically advanced nation,” she said.

She expressed hope that the facility would serve as a model for similar investments across the country and contribute to the transition to sustainable energy and smart transportation.
