According to Channels TV on August 22, 2025, Retired Nigerian Army General, Ishola Williams, has made a bold statement about the state of the country, saying Nigeria’s many problems can be fixed in a very short time if there is the right political will.
General Williams, who once served as Commandant of Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) and also chaired Transparency International in Nigeria, spoke during an interview on Sunrise Elite.
He described Nigeria as a nation battling what he called “pandemic corruption” from the local government level up to the national government.
According to him, corruption has eaten deep into every sector of society and is encouraged by what he called “impunity” because offenders are hardly punished.
He criticized the judiciary for not living up to expectations despite receiving higher salaries, allowances, and even houses built for them.
He also stressed the need for state and local government police to tackle crime from the grassroots. In his words, the central control of police from Abuja has not stopped political interference and cannot effectively fight corruption across the country.
General Williams, however, shocked many viewers when he declared: “We can solve this country problem in 6 months. I tell you, in 6 months.”
He insisted that the right structure, tough punishment for corruption, and sincere reforms in law enforcement can change Nigeria completely within half a year.
The retired general further warned that unless Nigeria embraces true federalism and allows states to take more responsibility in governance, the current system will continue to fail.
His strong words have left many Nigerians wondering if the solutions are really that simple or if leaders lack the courage to implement them.
