NEDC’s Renewed Hope For Schools, Markets, Others in Yobe

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) across the breath and length of Yobe State, has installed solar streetlights across various schools, markets, hospitals, media houses, and communities, as part of its ongoing post insurgency recovery efforts towards enhancing public safety, security and sustainable development.

In furtherance of its mandate to promote recovery and development in the North-East, the Commission, beyond its ongoing construction of schools, roads, bridges, and provision of potable water, has extended its interventions to the installation of solar streetlights across all 17 Local Government areas of Yobe State.

Mustapha Mohammed Gujba banker is a beneficiary of the training of 2024 NEDC’s solar-powered streetlights installation and maintenance in addition to being a resident of a community that benefited from the Commission’s solar streetlights project “I am thrilled to share my experience. The initiative has been a game-changer for our community, enhancing security and promoting sustainable development.

“I have seen firsthand, the impact on our local schools, including the newly constructed Mega and Model Schools. The NEDC solar powered streetlights have created a safer environment for students and staff. Similarly, the illuminated hospitals and healthcare centers have improved services, especially during nighttime emergencies,” he said.

The project’s scope, our Correspondent reports, is impressive, covering numerous locations across Yobe State, including rural and semi-urban communities. The installation of solar streetlights in places like modern and local markets ensures safety and even media institutions like NTA, YBC, YTV, and Sunshine Radio, thereby enhancing their operations.

Some of the benefitting locations include newly constructed Mega and Model Schools built under the administration of His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, in Buni Yadi, Damaturu, Geidam, Nguru, Potiskum, and Gashua. Other educational institutions that benefitted from the intervention include the College of Health Technology, Nguru; Geidam Polytechnic; and the College of Legal Studies, Nguru.

The intervention also covers all Specialist Hospitals across the state, including those in Damaturu, Buni Yadi, Geidam, Gashua, Potiskum, among others, as well as General Hospitals in Damagum, Nguru, Fika, and several other towns.

Additionally, numerous rural and semi-urban communities have been illuminated, including Dagona, Azam, Tagali, Madamuwa, Karage, Buduwa, Girgir, Hore Nyuwa, Mazagun, Kaliyari, Bara, Bularafa, Njibulwa, Buni Yadi, Goniri, the Low-Cost Area of Damagum, Dazigau, Sabon Garin Nangere, Dogon Kuka, Dawasa, and over 100 other communities across Yobe State.

The Commission has also extended its solar streetlighting to key media institutions in Damaturu including Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Yobe Television (YTV), Yobe Broadcasting Corporation (YBC), and Sunshine Radio, Potiskum among other broadcast stations across the state.

Led by its MD, Mohammed G. Alkali, Dr. Abubakar Garba Iliya, ED Admin and Finance representative of Yobe State on the Board and Management and its State Coordinator, Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, for their dedication to improving lives, the NEDC is commended for its robust collaboration with the Yobe State Government under Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, and other critical stakeholders, especially the National Assembly members who have been instrumental to driving the North-East post-insurgency recovery and development efforts towards achieving peace and sustainability.
