The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has announced an increase in the prize money for its sponsored categories in the Bayelsa Media Awards (BMA) to N1M along with a new laptop for individual winners.
This decision aims to enhance the quality of media coverage and foster greater interest in the industry.
The three categories benefiting from this increase are the NCDMB Prize for Niger Delta Region’s Oil and Gas Print Reporter of the Year, the NCDMB Prize for Niger Delta Region’s Oil & Gas Broadcast Reporter of the Year, and the NCDMB Prize for Niger Delta Region’s Economy Reporter of the Year. The previous prize amount was undisclosed but has significantly elevated the stakes for participants.
Dr. Obinna Ezeobi, the General Manager of Corporate Communications at NCDMB, communicated this development in Yenagoa on Friday, highlighting the board’s commitment to nurturing talent and building capacity in sectors associated with the oil and gas industry.
He expressed gratitude to the board’s Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Ogbe, for endorsing the prize increase, acknowledging the media’s vital role in promoting local content and supporting the industry’s growth. Ezeobi emphasized the importance of recognizing and rewarding excellence to inspire future generations of journalists.
The BMA Project Manager, Victor Binawari, praised NCDMB as the award’s longest-standing partner and recognized the prize upgrade as a motivation for media professionals to pursue higher standards of excellence in the region. With over 170 entries submitted this year, Binawari indicated strong trust and recognition of the BMA brand.
He repeated the brand’s dedication to fostering professionalism in the media, aligning closely with NCDMB’s goals. Binawari also noted that the voting and adjudication process commenced on August 1st and will conclude on September 20th, with the winners scheduled to be unveiled during a ceremony on October 9 in Yenagoa.
The partnership between NCDMB and BMA, established in 2015, continues to yield impactful results, demonstrating the board’s ongoing commitment to supporting the media industry through various initiatives, including capacity-building programs and social responsibility efforts.
