The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika has directed its members to comply with the NEC directive to resume the suspended indefinite strike on Monday 12th January, 2026.

Speaking shortly after their congress held at the Hospital’s Common Room, the Vice President of NARD/ABUTH branch, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim said, after exhaustive deliberations and in view of the Federal Government’s failure to honour the MoU freely entered into, to address legitimate demands, it has made the NEC to order its members nationwide to resume the suspended indefinite strike.

The Vice President who represented the branch’s President, Dr. Haruna Saleh Usman also said, that the NEC demands accelerated measurable progress on all other outstanding demands previously agreed upon with the Federal Government.

Also, the NEC has rejected the decision of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to redeploy the Five (5) disengaged Resident Doctors of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja to Another Federal Teaching Hospital, demanding their immediate and unconditional reinstatement in FTH Lokoja in line with the recommendations of the dully constituted committee.

The Association further demands the immediate transmission of the compiled promotion arrears owed to Resident Doctors across several institutions, to the Budget Office and Federal Ministry of Finance for urgent processing and payment.

While the association demands the immediate reversal of the re-categorisation of membership certificates by the Medical Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and the prompt issuance of certificates after Part 1 Examination by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN).

It also demands an urgent resumption of sitting by the committee on Special Pension Benefits, in line with the MoU reached with NARD, with a clear mandate to resolve the matter without further delay.

The National Executive Committee demands for the full implementation of the approved Professional Allowance Table (PAT) including the payment of all accrued arrears, insisting that the arrears be comprehensively captured and funded in the 2026 National Budget.
