Man lists 5 problems Nigerians could face if Tinubu wins re-election in 2027

A Nigerian man has listed five problems he believes Nigerians could face if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wins re-election in 2027, warning that the impact would cut across political affiliations.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), he highlighted electricity subsidies, a 5% fuel surcharge, tax reforms, green charges on imported vehicles and rising petrol prices.
He claimed electricity subsidies could be removed after the election, increasing power bills. The Federal Government has announced plans to phase out electricity subsidies in 2027, while promising measures to protect consumers.
He also warned that a 5% fuel surcharge could increase motorists’ expenses. Although the Nigeria Tax Act provides for the surcharge on eligible petroleum products, implementation requires an official commencement order. The government previously clarified that it was not considering new fuel taxes in June 2026.
On tax reforms, he claimed someone with ₦2.2 million in savings could pay ₦300,000 in tax. However, he provided no evidence for the calculation, and bank savings do not automatically attract a flat 15% personal income tax.
He further warned about green charges on imported vehicles. Under the existing measure, vehicles with engine capacities of 2,000cc to 3,999cc attract a 2% surcharge, while those with engines of 4,000cc and above attract 4%, subject to applicable exemptions.
Finally, he predicted that petrol could rise to ₦2,000 per litre, although he provided no evidence confirming the forecast. He maintained that Nigerians could feel the effects of these issues regardless of their political affiliations.
His comments have sparked discussions online ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with his warnings about fuel prices, electricity bills and potential tax burdens drawing attention.
