Kano govt revokes road contract after Dan Bello’s video

The decision was taken during the state executive Council meeting held on Wednesday August 6 at the council secretariat at Kwankwasiyya city.

The state commissioner for information Ibrahim Wayya, told newsmen that the council also re-awarded the contract for the dualisation of Dakata-Yadakunya (Bela) road at ₦6,147,010,996.10 after its revocation.

The council also approved ₦0.52 billion for the construction of Badgery-Yusuf road in Nasarawa Local government area.

Popular satirist and skit-maker DanBello, had visited the Gayawa area penultimate week and released videos highlighting the  devastating effects of erosion that destroyed the access road leading to the area.

On November 8th,2024, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf pledged to tackle gully erosion in Bulbula-Gayawa area in Ungogo local government.

The state Agro-climatic Resilience Semi arid Landscape ACReSAL project subsequently awarded the erosion control contract in December,2024.

Wayya said the council extensively discussed matters of strategic importance to the development of the state with several approvals granted to consolidate the administration’s people-oriented developmental agenda especially in critical areas like health, infrastructure,water supply and rural development.

He said the council approved a total sum of 14.828 billion naira for the execution of various projects across the state.

He said the government remains committed to an open governance  approach to enable the citizens to strictly monitor how every Kobo is being spent.

The commissioner said the council also approved conversion of Gaya Orphanage to a female reformatory institute and construction of a standard transit centre in Gaya at the cost of ₦1.34 billion .

Wayya further said the council approved renovation and rehabilitation of Sabo Bakin zuwo maternity hospital  Jakara at ₦364,508,253.28 and another ₦294,469,189.83 for the general renovation of existing infrastructure at the school of Health Technology, Bebeji among several other approvals.
