Iran Issues Stark Warning: ‘We Have Changed Our Tactics’ As Araghchi Leaves Diplomacy To Trump
According to a report by NBC News on Monday September 28, 2026, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned that Tehran is prepared for renewed military confrontation with the United States, while maintaining that diplomacy remains an option as tensions between the two countries continue.
In an interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press” on September 27, Araghchi said Iran was prepared for fighting to resume and would resist any further US aggression, even if the conflict escalated into what he described as a “doomsday war.”
“At the same time, we stand ready for diplomacy. It is up to President Trump to choose,” Araghchi said, presenting negotiations and military confrontation as the two possible paths ahead.
His comments came after President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and easing the confrontation. Araghchi said Tehran had not yet received an official response through diplomatic mediators, despite Trump’s public rejection of the proposal.
Under Iran’s proposal, Araghchi said the strategic waterway could be reopened as part of an arrangement leading to further negotiations. Tehran has also sought the release of frozen Iranian assets and the ability to resume oil sales as part of any broader agreement.
Araghchi also indicated that Iran had adjusted its military approach following previous confrontations. “We have changed our tactics,” he said, adding that Tehran had learned lessons from the earlier conflicts and was prepared for another confrontation.
The remarks come as Washington and Tehran continue to signal opposing positions publicly while leaving open the possibility of further indirect negotiations. President Donald Trump has said he expects talks with Iran to resume this week.
