INEC Must Still Explain Why They Have NOT Uploaded The Results From 62 Polling Units – Peterside

According to a report by Vanguard on Monday, August 16, 2026, economist and former banker Atedo Peterside has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to explain why results from some polling units were yet to be uploaded following the Osun State governorship election.

Peterside made the call while commenting on the outcome of the election, which ended with Governor Ademola Adeleke securing a second term. He cautioned Nigerians against focusing solely on the final result, saying the election also provided important lessons about voter participation and transparency in the electoral process.

According to him, the significant voter turnout recorded during the election showed that increased participation could help reduce opportunities for electoral malpractice. He maintained that citizens must remain actively involved in elections and continue to scrutinise the activities of electoral authorities.

Peterside also drew attention to the status of results on INEC’s Result Viewing Portal, noting that 98.35 per cent of the results had been uploaded by Sunday morning, while results from 62 polling units remained outstanding.

He acknowledged that the missing results were unlikely to alter Adeleke’s victory because of the margin separating him from his closest challenger. However, he argued that the outstanding figures still needed to be properly accounted for in the interest of transparency and public confidence.

Peterside stated, “INEC must still explain why they have NOT uploaded the results from 62 Polling Units out of 3,763 Polling Units.”

He further stressed that electoral credibility should not be measured only by who wins an election but also by how transparently the process is conducted. He therefore called for continued scrutiny of INEC’s handling of election results and encouraged Nigerians to remain engaged in the democratic process.

The former banker’s comments come as political parties and stakeholders continue to assess the conduct of the Osun governorship election and its implications for Nigeria’s electoral system ahead of the 2027 general elections.
