INEC Final 2027 Guber List: Pantami, Adebutu, Kano NDC Candidate Missing As Affected Camps React
According to a report by The Nation on Sunday, October 11, 2026, political tension has gripped several states ahead of the 2027 general elections following the release of the final list of governorship candidates by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Notable political figures, including former Communications Minister Isa Pantami, Ogun State politician Ladi Adebutu, and Kano Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) hopeful Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, saw their names conspicuously missing from the publication.
INEC’s decision is reportedly linked to strict party membership register requirements following a recent Supreme Court ruling affirming that candidates must be duly captured in registers submitted ahead of primaries.
National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna earlier maintained that political parties whose initial nominees fail this legal requirement would not be permitted to substitute them.
Reacting to the development, camps of the affected politicians have urged supporters to remain calm.
Professor Pantami described the setback through an aide as a “temporary challenge and a normal part of the electoral process,” while assuring followers that legal and liaison teams are engaging with INEC.
Similarly, the Ogun State PDP chapter accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of mounting undue pressure, expressing absolute confidence that Adebutu’s name would eventually be published.
Meanwhile, other prominent figures scaled through to make the final list, including Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, former Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, and former House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda.
With INEC closing windows for substitutions and strict adherence to electronic party registers now enforced, political parties face a tense race as the countdown to the 2027 polls gathers intense momentum across the country.
