If I Had Made Him Dep Gov He Could Shoot Me In My Office And Claim My Orderly Did It — Ngige

Former Governor of Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige, has spoken about why he was removed from office as governor in 2006. He said the real reason why he was removed from office was because he refused to appoint a powerful political figure in the state, Chris Uba, as his deputy governor.

According to a report by Vanguard on Thursday August 7, 2025, Ngige said those behind his removal made their intentions clear and even gave him certain conditions to follow in order to remain in office. He said one of those conditions was to accept Chris Uba as his deputy. However, Ngige said he rejected this demand.

Ngige explained that his main reason for rejecting the demand was for his own safety. He said if he had made Chris Uba his deputy, Uba would have gained immunity. He said with that immunity, Uba could harm him and nothing would happen. He said, “First, if I made him deputy governor, he would have immunity and could walk into my office and shoot me. If he shot me, nothing would happen. Stories would be told that my orderly did it by accident”

Ngige also said that if he had made Uba his deputy, the people of Anambra would have revolted against his government.
