Disobey IGP’s Directives, Get Dismissed – A’Ibom CP warns Operatives

On no circumstance that misconduct or breach of lawful directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu will be tolerated, Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare warned officers and men of the Command.

CP Azare gave the warning Friday during a high-level virtual conference with members of the Command Management Team, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Tactical Units.

Azare raised concern over reports of indiscipline, selective obedience and disregard for established operational guidelines in certain quarters.

He emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force operates on a well-defined chain of command, and any breach of directives from the Inspector-General constitutes gross misconduct and will attract firm disciplinary action.

The Commissioner reiterated that the ongoing reforms and strategic directives of the Inspector-General are designed to restore public confidence, enhance professionalism, and reposition the Force for effective service delivery.

According to CP Azare, any officer found undermining these efforts through acts of insubordination, unprofessional conduct, or dereliction of duty will face immediate sanctions, including orderly room trial and possible dismissal.

“Obedience to lawful orders is not optional but mandatory. The era of impunity, indiscipline, and disregard for constituted authority is over. Every officer must align with the vision and operational directives of the Inspector-General of Police.”

The CP, however has directed all supervising officers to ensure strict monitoring and enforcement of compliance within their respective formations, warning that Commanders will be held vicariously responsible for the actions or inactions of their subordinates.

He charged all personnel to rededicate themselves to duty with renewed discipline, integrity and commitment to the rule of law, noting that the image of the Force and the safety of citizens depend largely on the conduct of its officers.

The Command reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to professionalism, discipline and protection of lives and property. “Officers have been directed to uphold the highest standards of conduct in line with the vision of the Inspector-General,” the statement emphasized.
