Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, witnessed an extraordinary political spectacle on Thursday as Governor Mai Mala Buni and All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali, received a massive and emotionally charged reception from thousands of supporters in what political observers described as a major show of strength ahead of the 2027 political season.
From major highways leading to the city through crowded streets lined up with party supporters waving banners and chanting solidarity songs, the atmosphere in Damaturu transformed into a carnival-like celebration as residents, APC faithful, youth groups, women associations, and community leaders turned out in large numbers to welcome the two political figures.
The arrival of Governor Buni, who has continued to maintain strong political influence in Yobe State and beyond, alongside Baba Mallam Wali, sparked scenes of jubilation rarely witnessed in recent political gatherings within the state.
Supporters flooded strategic locations across the capital hours before their arrival, chanting slogans promoting unity, continuity, and the consolidation of the developmental agenda initiated under the APC-led administration.
Political analysts say the massive turnout was more than an ordinary reception; it was a strategic demonstration of political relevance, grassroots acceptance and party cohesion at a time when permutations ahead of the next governorship race are gradually taking shape.
Observers noted that the reception carried strong political symbolism, especially with the growing conversations surrounding succession politics in Yobe State and the search for continuity within the ruling party.
Many residents who spoke during the event described Governor Buni as a stabilising political figure whose leadership style has helped sustain peace, infrastructure development and party unity in the state.
The governor’s supporters also pointed to ongoing developmental projects across Yobe, including road construction, healthcare improvements, educational expansion and security support initiatives, as factors fueling his enduring popularity among the people.
