The people of Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, on Monday, honoured CSP Bashir Ali Hashim with a traditional title of Otuekong Okobo, in recognition of his distinguished service, integrity and contributions to humanity.

Bashir, who served as the Marine Officer in the state, was conferred with the prestigious title by the Paramount Ruler of Okobo, His Eminence, Edidem Ita Edet Okonkon Isonsi I, on behalf of the people of the area, in a ceremony that took place at the Royal Palace.

Edidem Okokon said the honour was a tribute to Hashim’s gallantry, dedication to duty and outstanding service to the nation.

The royal father described the former State Marine Officer as a courageous officer and warrior whose record of service had earned him the admiration and respect of the Oro people.

According to him, the honour was more than a plaque or ceremonial recognition, but a heartfelt expression of gratitude to an officer who served with commitment and integrity.

He said CSP Hashim’s years of service in the Oro Nation had demonstrated that dedication, honesty and selfless service would always leave lasting footprints.

The Paramount Ruler added that the recognition was a reminder that genuine service to humanity does not go unnoticed.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Senior Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Alhaji Abbas Tijani Hashim, thanked the Okobo Traditional Rulers Council and the people of the area for recognising the contributions of CSP Hashim while serving as a Marine Officer in the Oro Nation.

He said the honour bestowed on the officer, who hails from a royal family in Kaduna State, had further strengthened the bond between the North and the South.

According to him, Nigeria’s unity remains a vital force for national progress, stressing that relationships built on mutual respect and appreciation would continue to strengthen the country’s unity.

He also commended the Paramount Ruler for using the traditional institution to recognise excellence and honour individuals who have made meaningful contributions to society.

Responding, CSP Bashir Ali Hashim expressed deep appreciation to the Paramount Ruler and the people of Okobo for finding him worthy of the revered title.

The Otuekong of Okobo recalled the warmth, support and cooperation he received from the people of Okobo and the wider Oro Nation while carrying out his national assignment in the state.

The visibly elated police officer pledged to continue serving Nigeria with the best of his ability, dedicating the honour to his wife, family and the Nigeria Police Force.

Also speaking, the serving State Marine Officer, CSP Augustine Omorogbe, congratulated Hashim on the honour and assured that the Marine Police would continue to work hard to guarantee maximum security on the state’s waterways.

The ceremony was attended by senior police officers, traditional rulers, women, youths and other dignitaries from within and outside the Okobo community.
