Cross River Govt Cuts Levies For Intercity Drivers

Governor Bassey Otu

The Cross River State Government has approved a reduction in transport tickets payable by inter-city drivers operating across the state.

The approval, announced by the state government is part of efforts by the administration of Governor Bassey Otu to ease the financial burden on transport operators and create a more conducive environment for their businesses.

Under the new arrangement, outbound inter-city drivers will now pay N750 as transport tickets, down from the previous N1,350.

Similarly, drivers operating from private parks will pay N450, compared to the former N750 charge.

The reduction followed extensive consultations between the state government and relevant stakeholders in the transport sector.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Linus Obogo, on Monday , the government said the decision reaffirmed Otu’s commitment to the welfare and sustainable livelihood of transport operators in the state.

The statement added that the move was consistent with the administration’s efforts to reduce the burden of taxation and promote a business-friendly environment for operators.

The government said the approval demonstrated the governor’s responsiveness to concerns raised by stakeholders in the transport sector.

It explained that the new ticket regime is expected to provide some relief for inter-city transport operators, particularly against the backdrop of rising operational costs in the sector.
