Calabar: NDLEA Nabs Couple For Possessing 360 Bags Of Marijuana

The Cross River State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said it has arrested a 52-year-old teacher, Mr. Onun Ikoli, alongside his wife, Mrs. Itam Onun, for possessing 360 bags of marijuana weighing 4.706 tonnes in Yakurr Local Government area of Cross River State penultimate Tuesday

The state NDLEA Commander, Mr. John Anteyi, told media representatives in Calabar that the duo suspects claimed that the drugs belonged to a tenant who is now on the run.

When requested to provide reasons for being in NDLEA’s custody, the wife said, “I was arrested and brought here because I am the landlady.

“My husband and I collected the sum of N50,000 for a single room from a tenant and unknown to us, the tenant was a drug dealer,” she said.

Anteyi said the suspects denied involvement, stating that they were unaware that their tenant was a drug dealer and had only collected N50,000 rent from them.

He also said “as I speak, investigation is still ongoing. The NDLEA boss, rtd Brigadier General Mohammed Maruwa, is bent on bringing this illicit trade to an end.

“Our ears are still to the ground to arrest more suspects. The Cross River State Governor should also be commended for giving us assistance. He has been helpful,” he said.
