Akwa Ibom Police Apprehend Two Suspected Vehicle Thieves

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, have arrested two suspects over stealing of a vehicle belongings to a Delta State based water company.

The two suspects are Isaac Akpan, 27, of Akwebom Village, Obot Akara Local Government Area, his accomplice, Aloysius Aniekan, 45, a resident of Agric Road in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, both in Akwa Ibom State.

Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Timfon John confirmed the arrest in statement issued in Uyo and made available to our Correspondent.

DSP John stated that Akpan Isaac during interactions, admitted to stealing a white Daihatsu Hijet mini truck loaded with bags of sachet water from the pure water factory where he was employed in Agbor South, Delta State.

He further confessed that after selling the entire consignment of sachet water, he used the proceeds to purchase fuel and drove the stolen vehicle to Akwa Ibom State, where he sold it to another individual.

Aloysius Aniekan, having been found in the possession of the stolen vehicle, said he had allegedly re-registered with a new registration number in an apparent attempt to conceal its identity, DSP John stated.

The stolen white Daihatsu Hijet mini truck has since been recovered and taken into police custody as exhibit.

CP Baba Mohammed Azare, the Commissioner of Police in the State, has commended the operatives for their professionalism, diligence, and prompt response, reiterating the Command’s unwavering commitment to intelligence-driven policing and the protection of lives and property across the state.

The Commissioner assured members of the public that investigations were ongoing and anyone found connected to the criminal act will be brought to justice in accordance with the law.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information, as community partnership remains vital in combating crime and enhancing public safety.
