The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Markmoore Resources Limited, Mr. Uduak Effiong Umoh has noted the contributions of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to responsible journalism, public enlightenment and societal development in Akwa Ibom State as massive, saying that the state would not have been where it is today in the comity of states after creation on September 23, 1987 without the media.
Umoh acknowledged that Akwa Ibom since creation by former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida. Rtd., has evolved from being a pedestrian state at creation to becoming a destination of choice for investors and tourists among other landmark developments.
Umoh made the observation when he received members of the 2026 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Press Week Committee on a courtesy visit in Uyo on Friday.
The Company Chief Executive Officer, who is also the Director of TotalEnergies Services Station, 179 Ikot Ekpene Road, Uyo, said he remained committed to supporting initiatives that contribute to the growth and development of Akwa Ibom State.
Umoh expressed appreciation to the State Council of the Union for recognizing his contributions to society and selecting him as one of the recipients of its 2026 Press Week Awards.
He said was pleased that his contributions and community engagements had been noticed by members of the journalism profession.
The recognition, he noted came as a pleasant surprise, stressing that the award demonstrated that the efforts of individuals who contribute positively to society are being acknowledged
Earlier, the Chairman of the 2026 NUJ Press Week Committee, Comrade Gideon Ekere, informed Umoh that he had been selected as one of the distinguished award recipients at the Press Week Dinner and Awards Night.
Ekere added that his recognition was based on Umoh’s track record of goodwill, business activities and community-oriented contributions.
He thanked the Markmoore Resources boss for receiving the delegation and for his willingness to support the annual Press Week celebration.
The committee chairman emphasized the importance of collaboration between the media and responsible corporate citizens in promoting development, strengthening communities and advancing the interests of society.
The 2026 NUJ Akwa Ibom State Council Press Week is scheduled to hold from Sunday, November 29, to Friday, December 4, 2026.
