According to The Times Nigeria, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II has advised Nigerians interested in investing in Dangote Refinery shares to be cautious and invest only money they can afford to lose.
Sanusi gave the advice while speaking about the Dangote Refinery initial public offering (IPO), urging prospective investors not to put essential family funds into the investment.
According to the Emir, Nigerians should not sell their homes or use money meant for their children’s education to buy shares.
“Invest responsibly. Do not take your children’s school fees and put them in shares. Do not sell the house you live in and put it in shares,” Sanusi said.
He encouraged interested investors to start with smaller amounts that would not put pressure on their finances. He mentioned amounts such as ₦10,000, ₦20,000 and ₦30,000 as examples of money people could consider investing.
Sanusi also noted that investments could grow over time, but stressed the importance of protecting money needed for essential expenses.
His comments come amid growing public interest in the Dangote Refinery IPO, with Nigerians discussing the opportunity and considering how much they can afford to invest.
The Emir’s message was that investment should be approached with financial discipline rather than by risking important assets or funds needed for basic family responsibilities.
