Lawan Appointed 17th Emir Of Gumel

Upon the recommendation of both the Gumel Emirate Council Kingmakers and the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Malam (Dr.) Umar A. Namadi, FCA, has approved the appointment of Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani as the 17th Emir of Gumel.
He succeeds his father, HRH Alh. (Dr.) Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, who died on Thursday, September 3, 2026, after a distinguished reign of 46 years, according to a statement by Malam Bala Ibrahim who is the Secretary to the State Government.
Until his appointment as Emir of Gumel, Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani has held the title of Chiroman Gumel and served as Director of Cyber Security at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
Governor Malam (Dr.) Umar A. Namadi, FCA, the statement added, expressed gratitude to the kingmakers of the Gumel Emirate Council, under the Chairmanship of Wazirin Gumel, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Nasoro, and his members.
He also thanked their Royal Highnesses the Emirs of Hadejia, Kazaure, Ringim, and Dutse, who constitute the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs, for their invaluable advice during the selection process.
The Governor, on behalf of the Jigawa State Government, congratulated the new Emir on his appointment and wished him many years of successful service to Gumel Emirate and the nation.
Additionally, the statement said, Jigawa State Government once again extended its deepest condolences to the Royal family, the people of Gumel Emirate, the State’s Council of Chiefs, and all citizens of Jigawa State during the period of immense grief following the passing of HRH Alh. (Dr.) Ahmed Muhammad Sani II.
“We pray that Allah SWT forgive his sins, accept his good deeds, and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus. May Allah also grant the family, the Emirate, and the people of Jigawa the strength and fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss. May Allah admit him into Jannatul Firdaus together with our departed parents and loved ones,” the statement noted.
