In a landmark press statement, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, announced the withdrawal of criminal charges against Ms. Comfort Emmanson and a reduction in penalties for other parties involved in recent incidents of unruly behavior at Nigerian airports. The move, described as compassionate yet firm, underscores the government’s commitment to balancing justice with aviation sector reforms.
Following consultations with aviation stakeholders, Keyamo revealed key decisions regarding two prominent cases.
In the case of Ms. Comfort Emmanson, whose disruptive conduct on an Ibom Airline flight on August 10, 2025, led to her detention, the minister confirmed that Ibom Airline has withdrawn its complaint. Emmanson, who expressed remorse during police questioning in the presence of her lawyer, will be released from Kirikiri Prisons within the week.
Additionally, Keyamo successfully appealed to the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) to lift the lifetime flight ban imposed on her, with further details to be released by the AON.

In a separate incident involving music star Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as KWAM 1, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will reduce his flight ban to one month and withdraw criminal complaints filed with the police.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will also collaborate with KWAM 1 to appoint him as an ambassador for promoting proper airport security protocols.
For ValueJet’s Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba, implicated in related misconduct, the NCAA will restore their licenses after a one-month suspension, pending a mandatory professional reappraisal.
