Cristiano Ronaldo Hints At Retirement End Of Current Season

According to a report by the Daily Mail published on Sunday, August 16, 2026, Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he will “probably” retire from professional football at the end of the current season.

The 41-year-old made the revelation during an interview with Vogue, following his recent wedding to his long-term partner, Georgina Rodriguez.

Ronaldo, who currently plays for Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, admitted that his illustrious playing career could be approaching its final chapter after more than two decades at the highest level.

“This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy,” Ronaldo said.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward also revealed that he has already begun thinking about life after football. He said he hopes to spend more time travelling, watching and playing padel, and enjoying the rewards of a career built on years of hard work and sacrifice.

Ronaldo has enjoyed one of the most decorated careers in modern football. He began his senior career with Sporting Lisbon before joining Manchester United, where he established himself as one of the world’s elite players.

He later moved to Real Madrid, becoming the Spanish club’s all-time leading goalscorer and winning numerous major honours before joining Juventus. Ronaldo subsequently returned to Manchester United before making the move to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

His international career has also been historic. Ronaldo became one of Portugal’s most influential players and the country’s all-time leading goalscorer, playing a central role in the national team’s successes over the years.

His latest comments come after Portugal’s disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, raising the possibility that he could bring both his international and club career to an end within the next year.

If Ronaldo retires at the conclusion of the current season, he would be unlikely to feature at the 2030 FIFA World Cup, when he would be 45 years old.
