El-Rufai’s Situation Is Revealing: Over 170 Days In Prison Without Any Conviction – Fabyi

In a recent interview on Trust TV, on Friday, August 14, 2026, Oladimeji Fabiyi, an ADC chieftain, raised concerns about the prolonged detention of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and questioned the absence of a conviction.

Fabiyi stated, “Look at El-Rufai; he has spent over 170 days in prison, yet there is no conviction.” He made the remark while discussing what he described as the need for authorities to follow due process when dealing with political figures facing investigations or legal proceedings.

According to Fabiyi, the fact that an individual is being investigated does not mean the law should be ignored. He maintained that investigations and prosecutions should be conducted within the provisions of the law and that individuals should not be subjected to indefinite detention without the proper legal process.

The ADC chieftain argued that accountability was necessary, but insisted that the process must be fair and transparent. He said political disagreements should not determine how legal institutions treat individuals who are under investigation.

Fabiyi also maintained that his position was not an attempt to prevent law enforcement agencies from carrying out their duties. Instead, he said the relevant authorities should ensure that investigations are conducted properly and that anyone accused of wrongdoing is given the opportunity to defend themselves.

He further stressed that the rule of law should apply equally to politicians and ordinary citizens. According to him, prolonged investigations without clear legal outcomes could undermine public confidence in the justice system.

The ADC chieftain urged authorities to either bring appropriate charges before the court and allow the judicial process to take its course or ensure that individuals who have not been convicted are treated according to the law.

He concluded by calling for transparency and due process in politically sensitive investigations, maintaining that justice should not be delayed or influenced by political considerations.
