INEC To Conduct Kebbi Assembly Bye-Election June 20

The independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) in Kebbi State has fixed June 20 ,2026 to conduct bye-election for Zuru Constituency to the Kebbi State House of Assembly.

This was disclosed on Wednesday by the Commission’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hon. Abubakar Sarkin Pawa Dambo during a stakeholders meeting held at the Conference Hall of the Commission in Birnin Kebbi.

According to the REC, only two political parties – namely APC and LP will slug it out in the bye-election which will hold June 20.

Dambo further disclosed that the Commission has outlined 22nd to 26th May for political parties to democratically nominate candidates for the bye-election as contained in section 84 of the Electoral Act, 2026.

“At the expiration of the deadline, only two political parties i.e. APC and the LP met with INEC requirements for submission of candidates in the state,” the REC said.

“We requested these parties to submit the names of their polling agents latest Wednesday June 10″ while campaigns begin immediately and end up on the June 18, and the bye-election holds on June 20,” he added.

He noted that the seat of Zuru Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly became vacant, following the demise of the late member who doubled as the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Mohammed Usman Zuru who died on April 6, 2026.
