Sports Commissioner Hails Gov Eno’s Vision On Ibom Plaza

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, was physically present at the Ibom Plaza on the day the Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Algeria in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier to secure a place in the semi-finals, where they will face hosts Morocco.

Speaking at the venue, Elder Bassey explained that his visit was not solely to watch the Super Eagles in action, but also to assess the functionality and public impact of the Ibom Plaza edifice provided by the Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno.

“I didn’t come out just for the Super Eagles match,” the Commissioner said. “I came to test this edifice that His Excellency has put in place and to see the level of appreciation by Akwa Ibom people.”

He expressed deep appreciation to the Governor for the initiative, describing the facility as a symbol of progress and positive transformation.

Elder Bassey noted that the atmosphere at the Plaza was calm and well organised, with adequate security and a peaceful environment that enhanced the viewing experience.

The Sports Commissioner also praised the Super Eagles for their impressive AFCON campaign, highlighting Nigeria’s elimination of strong teams, including Tunisia, on their journey to the semi-final stage of the competition.

In the same vein, Elder Bassey commended Akwa United Football Club for their hard-fought victory over Rovers FC at the U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar, in their Nigeria National League (NNL) fixture played earlier in the day.

He described the win as a timely boost to the club’s push for a better league position.

Elder Bassey reminded the media that His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, had issued a clear directive for Akwa United to regain their place in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), stressing that the state government remains fully committed to providing the necessary support to achieve the objective.
