In what it described as unethical unionism activities, Authorities and Management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has said it has proscribed the Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), UNICAL Chapter, over misconduct.
The proscription, conveyed in a letter signed by the University Registrar, Dr. Mrs. Chukwuka Icha, takes effect immediately.
The decision, according to the letter, followed LAWSAN’s reckless resort to social media, painting the University in bad light, and disregarding extant laws and the matriculation oath taken by every student.
The University Management, as contained in the letter, frowns at such unethical display of insubordination and disobedience to constituted authority by students studying to become lawyers, advocates, and judges.
The current LAWSAN Executive Council, according to the letter, is directed to immediately hand over official properties and documents to the Faculty Officer, Faculty of Law, and concentrate on their studies.
All law students are hereby warned to stay away from all LAWSAN union activities, as Management will no longer tolerate any unethical behavior from them.
Furthermore, no student or staff has the right to address the press, put up social media posts, or grant interviews to discuss University matters without express authorization from the Management.
The proscription, as conveyed by the letter, will remain in effect until further notice.
