Reactions Trail Minister’s Comment After Hearing That Dubai’s New Airport Will Cost $35bn

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, sparked widespread discussion on Sunday after sharing his thoughts on a major infrastructure investment by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In a post on his official X account dated August 24, 2025, Keyamo disclosed that the UAE government plans to allocate a staggering $35 billion toward building a new international airport.
The minister drew a sharp comparison between the UAE’s massive budget and Nigeria’s own spending on airport facilities, according to him, the funds earmarked for renovating Lagos’ main airport amount to less than $500 million significantly lower than the UAE’s ambitious project.
Keyamo’s remarks, accompanied by a short video clip he posted online, have since generated a wave of comments, with many Nigerians debating the scale of investment required to upgrade aviation infrastructure in the country.
However, the minister’s post quickly attracted attention online, drawing mixed opinions from Nigerians across different platforms. Below are a few reactions from social media users:
