A Prominent Friend Of Mine Said Any Northerner That Does Not Support Tinubu Is An Ingrate — Galadima
Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari over his reported comment that northerners who do not support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are ingrates.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, September 24, 2026, Galadima said he watched Masari on television and took issue with the former governor’s position on political support for Tinubu.
Galadima described Masari as a prominent friend and recalled his previous positions as Speaker of the House of Representatives and Governor of Katsina State.
According to him, “I saw a friend of mine, a very prominent friend of mine, Aminu Bello Masari, former Speaker and former Governor of Katsina, on television. Well, I read he said that any northerner that does not support Tinubu is an ingrate.”
Questioning the basis of the statement, Galadima said political support should also be considered against the realities confronting people in the North, particularly the security challenges affecting communities in Katsina State.
He said, “Maybe, but I just want to remind him that he’s from Katsina, where every day, Katsina people are being displaced, and he and Bola Tinubu did nothing.”
Galadima’s criticism came amid continuing political disagreements over the performance of the Tinubu administration and the response to insecurity across northern Nigeria.
By specifically referencing Katsina, he sought to draw attention to the impact of insecurity on residents and communities in the state, while challenging the suggestion that northerners who do not support the president should be described as ungrateful.
The NDC chieftain’s remarks also highlighted the broader political argument over what should determine citizens’ support for a government. While Masari’s reported position linked support for Tinubu with gratitude, Galadima focused on the government’s handling of security and the experiences of residents affected by displacement.
Katsina has been among the northern states affected by attacks and insecurity, with communities facing threats from armed groups and bandits. The security situation has remained a major issue in political discussions about the Federal Government’s performance in the North.
Galadima argued that the experiences of people facing displacement should form part of the conversation about whether they have reasons to support the administration.
