Ahead of the 2027 general elactions, Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf Sambo, Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties to Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, has called on all residents of northern extraction to support the governor’s re-election bid to enhance their fortunes in the state.
Sambo, who is also the National Vice Chairman I of Inter-Tribe Leaders Association of Nigeria and leader of the enlarged association of northern communities in the state, made the appeal Tuesday while hosting a delegation of northern youths resident in Ugwuoba, Oji River Local Government Area, who came to thank him for securing a pilgrimage slot for one of their members, Alhaji Muhammad Kori Idris to perform Hajj in Mecca.
He harped on the need for residents to continue to support the Mbah administration beyond 2027, adding that the governor has distinguished himself through inclusive governance.
Addressing the youths, Sambo said, “Governor Mbah’s policy of carrying everyone along, irrespective of tribe or religion, is unprecedented in Enugu State.
“He has shown that Enugu belongs to all of us. He has not discriminated against anyone. Whether you’re Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba, Muslim or Christian, this government recognises you.
“The Hajj slot given to Alhaji Muhammad Kori Idris is proof of that inclusiveness. And for this to continue, we must to stand solidly behind.”
Sambo urged the northern community in Ugwuoba and other parts of the state to mobilise massively and ensure that their votes count for Governor Mbah in 2027.
“What the governor needs now is our collective support. He also needs our prayers, loyalty, and votes. 2027 is not far from now. So, let us organise from our mosques, our markets, and our homes, and deliver massive votes for his continuity,” he said.
Led by Malam Bassam Muhammad Abubakar, the youths assured Sambo of their support for Mbah, highlighting some of the governor’s achievements.
“We have seen the roads, the security, and the inclusive style of Governor Peter Mbah, and wherever Alhaji Sambo goes, we go. So, we will support Mbah in 2027 with our votes and our prayers,” Abubakar declared.
The group presented a royal robe, popularly known as Alkyabba, to Alhaji Sambo, describing him as a worthy leader of the northern community and a “powerful mobiliser” for the governor’s re-election.
